Fuwwaaaaaa… lovey dovey.. okay, getting over my fangirly feelings out the way. I haven’t touched a new anime in a while, and decided to check out Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi, which is translated as World’s Greatest Love. This is Spring 2011’s shonen-ai title, so unless you are a guy who appreciates bl-romance titles. Then this is a title targeted towards fujoshi fans.
The anime is from the same production team that created Junjou Romantica, so there are similarities and possible cameos from Junjou Universe. The art is definitely as detailed as CLAMP works, but the coloring is quite pleasing and romantic so that is thumbs up from me. From the opening I can see that there are going to be several couples in this series, as with most other bl-titles I know about like Sex Pistols or Gakuen Heaven. Watching this anime series, also reminds me of it being another version of Bakuman, or Hataraki Man.
Ritsu Onodera is a 25 year old editor, who starts to work in a Shoujo manga publishing company, after being a literature editor for three years, at his family’s publishing company. He is definitely not use to working in the shoujo department, and is still thinking about leaving the department as the episode ends. First he needs to gain more skills though. So unknowingly, he works in the same company as his high school crush. Guess who remembers who first though? There are a series of flashbacks, and the viewers are not really sure why does Ritsu has bad memories of his past.
Some points I found where funny was the 20 Day cycle, at the beginning it is all like roses, and such for the publishing team, but as deadlines come up.. there is a 180 degree change. So that can definitely scare off some people, and it definitely weird Ritsu out.
Another aspect I found interesting was definitely the reading involved. Since Ritsu was not familiar with the company’s published works, he will be doing some background work in detial. Wonder if that is the case for many of the publishing companies in America.
Not sure if I should have screen capped it, but there is some boy on boy action so far in the episode. This anime series is planned for 12 episodes, so hopefully I won’t fall off the mark with watching this series. But there is already three volume published in the manga.

I just watched it on crunchyroll. Jeeze! Sexual harassment scene. This is quite yaoi. No doubt. I mean very yaoi that fujoshi will be drooling over. What makes fujoshi enjoy that so much? It’s all mystery to me. Is it true that yaoi people understand more about otome’s pure heart? That’s what Emerald people claim.
LOL Well I did warn people in my review that it is a fujoshi fangirl fare. This is actually lighthearted fare.. hardcore for me is to see the actual act. Like how I watched in Sensitive Pornograph. Hmm now if you ask me..Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi is a nice romance story beginning. I only read a lot of this in manga, so to see it animate is veeeerrrrryyy nice ^_^ Sexual harassment is what the uke thinks. I am very sure that the seme thinks differently.
Why then MLM do fanboys like moe or typical other anime? I really don’t get why people likes certain titles.. so I like what I like. Emerald from the publishing crew? I think the situation is when in Rome do as Romans do.
Yeah, court will listen to the uke or victim, although the seme thinks it’s a “job.” 🙂 Yeah, that’s why they said, do as what Romans do!
Moe is due to saudade, or melancholy that you can’t go back and remake the past school life that was supposed to be the best time of your life. So, you try to remake and reundertake an experience that can never be achieved in reality or 3-D. Well, you read my articles, so you already know why I’m a moe guy. In turn, never heard of why fujoshi love yaoi. So, I am just curious.
Yeah, if this was shojo, story would have been very interesting. But since it’s gay-romance…Yet I may watch the next episode.
Well the reasons why yaoi is loved by fujoshi’s are reeeeaaallllyyyy different. If you ask on a broader term, it is beauty… and that no woman can really match up to the other. But I did polled and definitely agreed w/my other friend, who I regard as a more advanced fujoshi than I am, and she said that she loves it because it is the ultimate romance, and even though there is angst at some parts. There is the true love aspect, where there is like no other in this relationship. It is not as sappy and draggy as typical shojo romances.. the two meet, have sex and then is a couple. Presto! I really rather see guts over draggy wishy washy stuff.
Oh btw yaoi is for the hard core stuff with definite sex, and then shonen-ai is a lot of light romance and kissing. There’s a difference..
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!! That’s just awesome! That’s what I’m taking about. You explained with passion! That’s what otaku is about! Beauty no woman can match up…ultimate romance…wow. That is the greatest explanation I ever heard! I truly admire you and succumb to you as fujoshi of AnimeDiet! I didn’t know there were levels even existed among fujoshis. Thank you for the explanation!
Yeah, true, shojo is usually dragging too long, especially manga, that’s why I don’t usually read manga. I’m like “get to the point!” each time I flip the page.
I see, didn’t know there was a difference between yaoi and shonen-ai. What about BL? Can cover both?
Well personally I think BL is like a big umbrella, just signifying that you are talking about Japanese homosexual anime/manga stuff for guy/guy. It is a very broad category. Well there’s a lot of girls out there who like this stuff, so I know for my fujoshi friends who live not on the West coast, that it is a dream to make it to Yaoicon. I find myself having some fun at a GLBT book fair though. I believe at the moment, that I am the only active female writer on AD, and self-identified fujoshi.. so sure. I like to place levels on somethings, so for me it is like playing an RPG. (Have you ever seen Gintama, where they were all in that video game, that part was hysterical, especially on how Kagura is a guy, and how Hijikata only had 1hp).
Shoujo has those moments, but it is only on certain titles. You know shonen also has those issues as well.
Cool, BL, or shonen-ai is rather broad then. Yeah, I know someone who went to Yaoi-kon. They told me it was a great experience. San Francisco, yeah, LGBT capital, no wonder! I have never been to San Francisco by the way. I don’t follow Gintama, but I watch it sporadically, I did actually see that episode. Yeah, fujoshi ranking. Otaku supposedly have levels and rankings too, like people who mastered goshin, but I’m not one of these fundamentalists, I’m just simply an otaku from simple folks.
(sighs) How I wish I can swing by the West Coast eventually. Yes! Gintama saiko!!!! Fundamentalists? I call that classification, and a sociological hobby quirk I have.. and just a realization that there are niche and categories within a subject. I talk with a lot of people, and at times.. if we’re talking about hobbies.. it makes it easier to understand where people are coming from. I confess that at times I don’t feel as hardcore as my other friends who are fujoshi.
Hurray for yaoi and shonen-ai~! I heard the second episode just came out today~!!!!! Viva la yaoi~!!!!!
BANZAI!!!!!!! Thank you for the notification. ^_^
