“Does Evangelion Save Us?”

She’s got the whole world in her hands.

That is the question in the English subtitle of the Japanese Rolling Stone cover story. And well, if they mean the Evangelion, Neon Genesis created and recreated by Hideaki Anno and Gainax, the answer is no. But I believe there is a εὐαγγέλιονa gospel–that saves us and offers us immortality far beyond the big ocean of soup and strangulation at the end of Anno’s version.

This Christian moment is brought to you by Michael Huang: because seminarians will always find an excuse to preach!

  1. Looking forward to your continued efforts!

“I am not Mike Huang, I’m the voice calling out in the cyberworld, ‘Make time to read Mike Huang’s articles.'”

  2. Heh. What nice timing, Mike. It’s a nice and cloudy Sunday afternoon here too… having just returned from church (not like that would mean a different answer had I not) I fully agree.

Did you find out the specifics on what Eva was purported to save people from? AIDS? Cancer? Bad anime? Or a sense of hope in humanity? 😛

  3. Considering that the Japanese title of the article is “Is the Latest Eva Work About Ecology?” I’d say it’s from the threat posed by global warming induced by trying to mess with Adam down in the South Pole. 🙂
