Your temporary heaven is coming to San Diego from October 11-18. From Anime News Network via TokyoGraph:
The 8th Annual San Diego Asian Film Festival will screen 5cm per Second, the latest animated film from director Makoto Shinkai (Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised in Our Early Days), during its run from October 11 to 18.
But wait, there’s more! From the original TokyoGraph story:
Also being screened is “The Great Happiness Space: Tale of An Osaka Love Thief,” an acclaimed documentary by British director Jake Clennell about the world of Japanese host clubs.
Mike’s Take: Living only a couple of hours away from San Diego during most of the year, and with a good friend who also lives there, I’m severely tempted to go just to see Byousoku 5 cm on the big screen. Shinkai need space to do justice to his visuals. (I had the chance to do it at AX this year, but I was too tired. For more info, see my recent review.) Yes, just Byousoku. No, I didn’t mention the other showing for anything other than informational reasons. Really. I swear! You’ll make me a host over my dead–
Ahem. Sorry. Anyways, one more night of grading homeworks, and then total freedom. Have a good evening everyone! (I’m also going to be out of comission for most of tomorrow as I’ll be heading back home on a plane for the day–which gives me lots of uninterrupted time to edit the podcast. :))
Have a nice weekend! I feel envious for you guys over there, catching 5cm on the big screen would definitely be something to behold. ):
