Fans have known a reboot was coming since 2024, but Science SARU has finally shared the concrete details everyone wanted. Specifically, The Ghost in the Shell 2026 Anime will officially begin airing in Japan this July. This major update coincides with the opening of the “Ghost and the Shell” exhibition at NODE Tokyo, which runs from January 30 to April 5, 2026.
A New Generation of Cyberpunk Music
The production committee recently unveiled a powerhouse music team to define the show’s soundscape. Taisei Iwasaki, the award-winning composer for Belle, serves as the music director and lead composer. Joining him are Ryo Konishi, who recently directed music for the Osaka World Expo, and Boston-based creator Yuki Kanesaka. This trio aims to reinvent the franchise’s iconic atmosphere for a modern audience.
Faithful to the Source
Unlike some recent adaptations, this version leans heavily into Masamune Shirow’s original 1989 manga aesthetic. Director Mokochan is making their directorial debut with this project, supported by screenwriter EnJoe Toh and character designer Shuhei Handa.
The new footage showcases a “faithful” return to the core of the series, featuring iconic designs like the red Fuchikomas. Finally, the The Ghost in the Shell 2026 Anime will air every Tuesday at 11:00 PM on the Kansai TV/Fuji TV network starting this July. Updates will continue to drop via the official series website and social media accounts as the premiere approaches.
