Anime Diet Radio Episode 14–We Mustn’t Run Away!

Like maturity, we were just a few days late with this episode–but Anime Diet Radio, being 14 like Shinji-kun, has made its angst-ridden, whiny return! And indeed, we spend a good amount of time talking about ourselves and our battle with the splogs in our Roundtable section this time. For the first time, however, we answer reader mail–thanks asdf!– and talk about Clannad canned bread and strange places for Nice Boats to appear. (Some comments have arrived for our previous episode since this episode was recorded; we will answer it in the following episode, which will be our Halloween special.)

  1. What you guys said about the anime industry and the market turning toward more mainstream titles and less on the niche titles worries me after the story I recently read on anime news network about Japan asking America to stop illegal net releases. If companies stop focusing on the niche titles or stop caring about them all together and if something happens with this whole Japan wanting America to step in and help fight against fansubs, we are in for very dark times. Very dark times indeed. I felt a problem like this was going to come up after what happened to Geneon.

  2. I’ve been having problems with sploggers for awhile I didn’t even know what it was. Now I know what to call it. I get weird traffic and links from all types of weird spam sites that show up in my referral links for the anime genesis site. I’ve been trying to get rid of them but I don’t know how. I didn’t even know there was plug-in’s to stop sploggers. I’ll see what I can figure out and let you guys know if I find anything that works.

  3. Mmmmmmm moe… (drools)

Seriously though, my opinion regarding the state on anime in the US is this: They need to learn how to market it properly and not be afraid to take risks. They have these trailers they put on DVDs, but why not put one well placed commercial during anime on Adult Swim? They are relying to much on word of mouth, web reviews, or on people who have see the fan-subs with the hope those same otaku will buy the legit releases. They need to reassess how they look at the American market.

Great job on the podcast guys.

  4. Canned bread? I would have expected Clannad branded dango after seeing that incredebly memetic and adorable ending animation.
