Miho Okasaki & Megumi Toyoguchi on Meeting International Fans
マイケル： これまで日本国内だけでなく海外でもファンの皆さんと交流する機会があったと思います。海外のファンの方々と会った中で特に印象に残っている思い出はありますか？ また、特に驚いたことや感動した出来事があれば教えてください。
Michael: You have now had opportunities to meet fans both in Japan and overseas. What are some of your favorite memories from meeting international fans, and have there been any moments that especially surprised or moved you?
岡咲美保： ファンの方にペンの色を選んでいただくサイン会にて、圧倒的に水色が人気で、『リムルブルー！』と皆さんが笑顔で選んでくださったことが印象に残っています！
Miho Okasaki: At the autograph session, when the fans chose the color of the pen I used, light blue was overwhelmingly the most popular choice. They would pick it with a smile, saying “Rimuru Blue!”
That really left an impression on me.
豊口めぐみ： 比較的多くの方が、日本語を勉強してくださってることです。
現地の言葉でも、日本語でも作品を見てくださってるんだろうなと思いました。
アニメという文化を通して言葉を勉強する。とても素敵なことだと思います。
今回このイベントに参加させていただいて、「もし機会があるならば、こちらの声優さんにお会いできませんか？」とお願いしていたのですが、その夢、叶えていただきまして、大賢者・ラファエル役の声優さんにお会いすることができました！
初めて海外の声優さんにお会いできて感動しました！！！！
なんなら収録現場も見に行きたかったです！！！！
Megumi Toyoguchi: One thing that really stood out to me was how many people are studying Japanese.
It made me feel that people are enjoying the series both in their local language and in Japanese as well.
Learning a language through the culture of anime is such a wonderful thing in my opinion.
By participating in this event, I had one special request, “If possible, could I have a chance to meet one of the local voice actors?”
And that dream actually came true! I was able to meet the English voice actor for Raphael!
It was my first time meeting a voice actor from overseas, and I was so moved!!!!
Honestly, I would have loved to visit the recording studio here as well!!!!
Impressions of Anime Expo 2026 and Los Angeles
マイケル： Anime Expoには、さまざまな国や文化的背景を持つアニメファンが集まります。Anime Expoやロサンゼルスで感じた会場の雰囲気について、どのような印象をお持ちですか？
Michael: Anime Expo brings together anime fans from many different countries and backgrounds. What are your impressions of Anime Expo and the atmosphere here in Los Angeles?
岡咲美保： 会場全体がアニメ、ゲーム作品への愛に溢れているのが、皆さんの笑顔やコスプレ姿からとっても伝わってきました！
2千人キャパのホールでのパネルも大いに盛り上がっていただき、とても楽しい時間でした！
Miho Okasaki: I could really tell the love that everyone had for anime and games through their smiles and amazing cosplay!
The 2,000 seat panel was also incredibly lively and engaging, making it a truly enjoyable and memorable experience for me!
豊口めぐみ： コスプレをしてる方をたくさん見かけましたが、実写化したかのようなクオリティでとても眼福でした！
ここはアニメ世界なのか！？と思いました（笑）
Megumi Toyoguchi: I saw so many people cosplaying and the quality was so incredible that it felt as if the characters had come to life in a live-action adaptation. It was truly a feast for the eyes!
I even found myself thinking, “am I actually in the world of anime right now?!” (laughs)
Memorable Fan Moments at Anime Expo
マイケル： イベントでは、憧れの出演者と会うことで、ファンの方々が興奮したり、感極まったりすることがあります。これまで日本国内や海外で多くのファンと交流されてきた中で、特に印象に残っている出来事や、心に残っているファンとの交流があれば教えてください。
Michael: At live events, fans often become excited, emotional, or deeply moved when meeting the performers they admire. As someone who has met fans both in Japan and overseas, are there any interactions or moments that have remained especially memorable to you?
岡咲美保： 今回のAnime Expoのパネルにて、前の方のお客さんと目が合った時に、小さくハートサインを送ってきてくれたのが嬉しかったです。
指ハートだったりほっぺハートだったりいろんなサインを送ってくださったので、同じポーズでお返ししたら照れながらもすごく喜んで下さっているのが伝わってきて、とても可愛らしかったです。
Miho Okasaki: During the Anime Expo panel, I made eye contact with some fans seated near the front, and they made small heart signs towards me which made me really happy.
Some made finger hearts, some made cheek hearts; there were so many kinds of signs they showed me. When I returned the gesture with the same poses, I could tell they were a little shy but genuinely delighted, which I found absolutely adorable and heartwarming.
豊口めぐみ： みなさんとてもフレンドリーに話しかけてくださるので、私がその場所の言葉を喋れなくても、あまり緊張せずいられることができて、ありがたいです。
ファンの方もですが、スタッフの方もとても親切にしてくださって、以前に「今度は日本でご飯食べましょう〜」なんて話をして、その後、日本にいらした時に何度かお食事をご一緒したこともあります。
イベントを通して、いい出会いができますね。
Megumi Toyoguchi: Everyone is so friendly and willing to start conversations with me so even though I can’t speak the local language, I don’t feel very nervous. I’m truly grateful for that.
Not only the fans, but the event staff as well have always been incredibly kind to me. In fact, I remember saying, “Next time, let’s have a meal together in Japan!” and later, when they visited Japan, we were able to get together for dinner several times.
Events like these really create wonderful opportunities to meet great people.
Why Fans Connect with Rimuru and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime
マイケル： 『転生したらスライムだった件』は、今や世界中のファンから愛される作品となっています。日本国内だけでなく海外でも、多くの人々がリムルや『転スラ』の世界に共感し、惹きつけられているのはなぜだと思いますか？
Michael: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime has become beloved by fans all over the world. Why do you think so many people, both in Japan and overseas, connect with Rimuru and the world of Slime?
岡咲美保： ストーリーの面白さやアクションシーンのかっこよさなど勿論色んな要素があると思うのですが、やはり設定が斬新で面白いのは強いなと思います。
海外のアニメ・ゲームファンの方にもスライムは基本弱小というのは認識されていると思うので、魔王になってしまった友好的なスライムというだけでも興味を持っていただけるのではと思いました。
その上で、色んな気持ちにさせてくれつつもストレスフリーな物語の進行に、私も含め老若男女、日本国内外問わず、色んな方々が安心して見続けられるのが魅力的だなと感じます。
Miho Okasaki: Of course, there are many elements that make the series so loved, such as its engaging story and exciting action scenes. However, I think one of its greatest strengths is how unique and imaginative its premise is.
I believe anime and gaming fans overseas are also generally familiar with the idea that slimes are usually considered one of the weakest monster types, so the concept of a friendly slime who rises to become a Demon Lord is intriguing in itself and naturally sparks curiosity.
On top of that, the story takes viewers through a wide range of emotions while maintaining a smooth, largely stress-free story progression. I think that’s one of its biggest charms. It’s the kind of series that people of all ages and backgrounds, both in Japan and around the world, can comfortably enjoy and keep watching.
豊口めぐみ： ストーリーがまず面白い！コメディのシリアスのバランスもいいんだと思います。
アニメ版はさらに、美保ちゃんがリムルを演じることで、シリアスになりすぎず、絶妙なバランスになっていると思います。
そして、リムルというキャラクター。まんまる水色の愛くるしいあのキャラクター。みんな大好きですよね。
あんなに愛くるしいのに頼もしい。上司にしたいNO.1キャラクターです。
Megumi Toyoguchi: First and foremost, the story itself is incredibly entertaining! I think one of its greatest strengths is the perfect balance between comedy and serious moments. With Miho-chan voicing Rimuru, the anime adaptation never becomes overly serious, and it maintains that wonderful balance.
And then there’s the character Rimuru. That adorable little round, light blue character. I think it’s safe to say that everyone loves Rimuru, right? Despite being so cute, Rimuru is also incredibly reliable. Rimuru is definitely the No. 1 character I’d want as my boss.
How Miho Okasaki and Megumi Toyoguchi See Rimuru and Raphael Today
マイケル： 長年にわたってリムル（岡咲美保）/ラファエル（豊口めぐみ）役を演じてこられましたが、初めてこの役を担当された頃と比べて、リムル（岡咲美保）/ラファエル（豊口めぐみ）というキャラクターに対する理解や感じ方に変化はありましたか？
Michael: You have been playing Rimuru (Okasaki) / Raphael (Toyoguchi) for many years now. Looking back, has your understanding of the character changed since you first took on the role?
岡咲美保： リムルはずっとリムルなので、大きく印象や演じる距離感が変化したことはないです。
ただ、ストーリーが進むたびにリムルも成長と言いますか、この世界での振る舞いをフリーダムというよりは使い分けるようになったなと思います。
特に、シズさんと出会いこの世界に敵がいると気づいた時や神之怒(メギド)以降、テンペストという国を何が何でも守ると決意した後からは、リムルの中により強い意思と戦略を感じるようになりました。
Miho Okasaki: Rimuru has always been Rimuru, so my overall impression of the character and the way I approach voicing Rimuru hasn’t changed drastically.
That said, as the story progresses, Rimuru has certainly grown in a way where instead of acting completely freely, Rimuru has become more adept at understanding situations and adjusting how to conduct oneself within the world.
In particular after meeting Shizu and realizing that there are enemies in the world, and especially following Megiddo, when Rimuru resolved to protect Tempest no matter what, I began to sense a much stronger will and greater strategic mindset within Rimuru.
豊口めぐみ： 作品が続いている年数と共に、美保ちゃんと私の距離も近くなったような気がして、大賢者を演じていた時より、ラファエルを演じている今の方が、リムルがより近くに感じます。
Megumi Toyoguchi: As the years have passed and the series has continued, I feel like the distance between Miho-chan and me has also grown closer as well. Because of that, compared to when I was first voicing the Great Sage, I feel much closer to Rimuru now as the voice of Raphael.
Miho Okasaki on Balancing Voice Acting and Singing
マイケル： 声優としてだけでなく、アーティスト（歌手）としてもご活躍されています。声優としての活動と歌手としての活動は、お互いに影響し合っていると感じますか？ それとも、それぞれまったく異なるアプローチで取り組まれているのでしょうか？
Michael (to Miho Okasaki): Many fans know you both as a voice actress and as a singer. Do those two sides of your work influence one another, or do you approach them in completely different ways?
岡咲美保： お互いに影響し合っていると感じます。
アプローチの仕方は違えど、歌うように演じ、演じるように歌えると声優アーティストとしての色を活かせると考えているので、例えばRECの際は歌詞の奥に隠されている表情や温度感を意識して歌うようにしています。
ライブに来てくださるファンの方のほとんどが、私が演じるキャラクターに興味を持ってから私を知ってくれた方々なので、声優活動も歌手活動も私にとってとても大切な時間です。
Miho Okasaki: I feel that the two sides of my work influence each other. Although the approach is different, I believe that being able to act as if I’m singing, and sing as if I’m acting, allows me to make the most of my identity as a voice actor artist. For example, when recording songs, I try to be mindful of the emotions, expressions, and warmth hidden within the lyrics.
Most of the fans who come to my live performances first discover me through the characters I voice, so both my work as a voice actor and as a singer are incredibly important to me.
Unexpected Lessons from Their Careers
マイケル： 業界デビューされてからこれまでを振り返ってみて、活動を始めた当初には想像していなかった「自分自身についての新たな発見」や、意外だった気づきはありますか？
Michael: Since making your debut in the industry, what is something you have learned about yourself that you did not expect when you first started?
岡咲美保： 声優デビューするまでは身近に声優志望の方もなかなかいなかったので、お芝居に対する自分以外の方の捉え方が分からなくて。でも、アフレコで先輩の背中を見たり、同期の声優の方とご飯会でお話したりして、自分はキャラクターにこうあって欲しいという憧れを投影するタイプなのかなと今は感じています。
あまり理屈で考えず、マイク前でそのキャラクターとして生きるというスタイルが心地よくて。
そこでディレクションをいただいたら、パッと方向性を変更できるように日々引き出しの構築に精進しています。
表現への向き合い方は日々少しずつ変わっていくものとは思いますが、この世界の海に飛び込んでみて、自分のスタイルを守り、そして変化させていく必要性に気づきました。
Miho Okasaki: Before I made my voice acting debut, I rarely had the chance to meet anyone who was aspiring to become a voice actor, so I didn’t really know how other people approached or interpreted acting. However, through watching and learning from my seniors during recording sessions and talking with fellow close in age voice actors over meals, I’ve come to realize that I may be the type of actor who projects my ideals and aspirations for how I want a character to be.
I don’t tend to overanalyze things and simply living as that character in the moment when I step up to the microphone feels the most natural to me.
At the same time, I work every day to expand my range and build a creative stock so that I can quickly adjust and explore different approaches if I’m given a different direction. I think the way we approach expression naturally evolves little by little over time, but after diving into the vast ocean of this industry, I’ve come to understand the importance of both staying true to my own style and continuing to adapt and grow.
豊口めぐみ： 仕事を始めた当初は、何も考えてなかったというか、考える余裕すらなく、ただ目の前にあるものを一生懸命やるしかなかったという感じです。
想像していなかったことは、こんなにたくさんのバラエティに富んだ役をやらせていただけるとは思ってなかったです。
Megumi Toyoguchi: When I first started my career, I wasn’t really thinking about anything in particular. To be honest, I didn’t even have the time or mental space to think. I was simply doing my best to focus on whatever was right in front of me.
What I never imagined, though, was that I would have the opportunity to play such a wide variety of roles.
What Miho Okasaki and Megumi Toyoguchi Are Enjoying Lately
マイケル： 現在携わっている作品以外で、最近個人的に楽しんでいる本や映画、音楽、ゲームなどはありますか？ また、その中で特におすすめしたい作品があれば教えてください。
Michael: Outside of your current projects, are there any books, films, music, games, or other things that you have been enjoying recently?
岡咲美保： 今年の3月から小説にはまり、7月時点で現在36冊目を読書中です。もともと本屋さんが好きでいつか読むだろうと小説を購入していたのですが、久しぶりに本棚を整理したのをきっかけに人生一の読書ブームが到来中です。
(翻訳されていなかったら申し訳ないのですが)辻村深月さんの『凍りのくじら』という1冊がおすすめです。
みんな大好き、ドラえもんの道具を通して、今は会えないお父さんとの思い出や謎が紐解かれていきますよ。
Miho Okasaki: Since March of this year, I’ve really gotten into reading novels, and as of July, I’m currently on my 36th book.
I’ve always loved bookstores and would often buy books thinking I’ll get around to reading this someday, but after reorganizing my bookshelf for the first time in a while, I suddenly found myself in the biggest reading phase of my life.
One book I’d highly recommend is (and I apologize if it has not yet been translated) The Frozen Whale by Mizuki Tsujimura. Through the beloved Doraemon’s gadgets, the story gradually unravels memories and mysteries surrounding the protagonist’s father, whom they can no longer meet.
豊口めぐみ： 私はミュージカルが好きで・・最近といっても少し前になりますが、「Wicked」の映画は公開初日に見に行きました！
シンシアさん・アリアナさんお二人の、歌もお芝居も素敵で・・・！鳥肌ものでした！
あと好きな作品といえば、「MAMMA MIA!」です。ハッピーになれるミュージカル。映画も舞台も大好きです！
いつか本場で観てみたいです！・・英語勉強しなきゃですね（笑）
Megumi Toyoguchi: I love musicals… and although it’s not exactly recent anymore, I went to see the Wicked movie on the day it was released!
Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were both absolutely incredible…! Their singing and acting were so amazing that they gave me goosebumps!
Another favorite of mine is MAMMA MIA!. It’s such a feel-good musical that always leaves you happy. I love both the movie and stage production!
I’d love to see it performed in its home country someday! …Though I guess I’d better study English first! (laughs)
Roles and Challenges They Want to Take On Next
マイケル： 今後に向けて、挑戦してみたい役柄やパフォーマンス、あるいは新たに取り組んでみたいことはありますか？ また、その理由についてもお聞かせください。
Michael: Looking ahead, are there any kinds of roles, performances, or challenges that you would like to take on in the future?
岡咲美保： 二面性のある役を演じてみたいです。どんなキャラクターも色んな顔があると思うのですが、例えばセリフとモノローグが全然違っていたり、相手によって態度が180度変わったりと表現の幅をつけられるキャラクターに出会えると面白そうだなと思います。
Miho Okasaki: I’d love to play a character with two very different sides to their personality. Of course, every character has different faces, but I think it would be especially interesting to portray someone whose outward words and inner thoughts are completely different, or whose attitude changes dramatically depending on who they’re interacting with. I think a character that would offer a wide range of expressive possibilities like that would be a lot of fun.
豊口めぐみ： いろんな役をやらせていただいてます。これからはそれを深掘りしていく期間になるのかなと思っています。
Megumi Toyoguchi: I’ve had the opportunity to play all kinds of roles. I feel that it may be a time for me to delve deeper into those experiences and explore each role more.
Messages for North American Fans and Anime Diet Readers
マイケル： 最後に、北米のファンの皆さん、そして『Anime Diet』の読者の皆さんにメッセージをお願いします。
Michael: Finally, do you have a message for your fans in North America and for the readers of Anime Diet?
