In a surprise move aimed at “low-impact” viewing, Crunchyroll has officially announced the launch of Whisper-Cast, a new audio setting that replaces traditional high-energy Shonen performances with professional, studio-recorded ASMR dubbing.
The initiative was reportedly born from internal user data suggesting that over 60% of late-night viewers are forced to turn their volume down to near-zero during battle sequences to avoid disturbing roommates or family members.

“We wanted to preserve the intensity of the performance without the noise complaints,” says Hiroshi Aprilson, Head of Audio Innovation at Crunchyroll. “The Whisper-Cast allows fans to feel the ‘Domain Expansion’ right in their ear canal, but at a soothing 15-decibel level.”
The feature is powered by the proprietary “Lirpa-LoFi” Codec, which isolates vocal frequencies and softens “plosive” sounds. This tech reportedly makes even the most aggressive battle cries—such as those from Black Clover’s Asta or Jujutsu Kaisen’s Sukuna—sound like a gentle, rhythmic breeze.
Availability: The “Whisper-Cast” setting is rolling out as a 24-hour beta test starting today. It is currently compatible with the Crunchyroll mobile app and select desktop browsers.
