Adventures in Blogosphere: Episode 1, The Phantom Conciseness

spike

Greetings, my friends! We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. And remember my friends; future events such as these will affect you in the future. You are interested in the unknown, the mysterious, the unexplainable; that is why you are here…

Hmm… No, that won’t do…

Friends!  Romans! Countrymen!   Lend me your… (Wait a minute, this is an anime website)… Ahem…  Friends! Geeks!  Otaku!  Lend me your Easy Japanese Translation Books!

No, no, no…

Captains’ Log … Hehe… Log.

Oooooo, what about…

You are entering another dimension.  A dimension not only of sight and sound but of pantsu.  That signpost up ahead… The Twili… er… Anime Diet Zone…

Damn.   This isn’t working.  Guess we just have to go by the old standby.

Greetings fellow anime nerds friends. As one of the new writers/reviewers/know-it-alls here at your friendly neighborhood AnimeDiet.net, I thought it was only proper to give you a formal introduction complete with fanfare and ponies. Unfortunately, because the three professional speech writers I contacted wouldn’t return my calls and the pony wrangler rode off into the sunset with my deposit check, you get the plain ole “Hi, my name is…”

I’m a man of many names, but mainly just one. In the interest of internet anonymity I go by the handles of DCbebop (If you can’t figure out where that name came from, why are you reading an anime blog?) and Electricv01. Ok, so technically that’s two. I’ve been an anime fan since 1998 when my college roommate subjected me to a show called Dragon Ball Z. Say what you will about the show, it was my gateway drug anime.  It and the rest of the Toonami lineup are all included in the fond memories of people packing into the dorm’s TV lounge waiting eagerly to see if this episode would be the one Goku defeated Freeza or if we would have to wait till tomorrow (Longest five minutes… EVER).

Since then my devotion to the media has grown to not just a love of anime and manga, but also Japanese culture. I was the co-founder of my university’s first anime club, and I am currently a co-organizer of two anime clubs, Anime Soufflé and Konnichiwa Otaku. Also, prepare your torches and pitchforks; I’m a fan of dubs. I became an anime fan in a small Midwest college town, before the wonders of high-speed fiber-optic taffy-pulling anime-downloading interwebs, so my experiences were all with the local rental store’s VHS tapes, most of which were dubs. And while I have seen my share of bad dubs, there are some I truly love.  These are the ones that make me really appreciate being able to take in all the awesome visuals of the animation without stopping and looking at the bottom of the screen to read what the characters are saying, b ut that is a debate for another time.

So what brings me to Anime Diet? What kind of articles am I planning to write? Are fishes and marine mammals really planning to overthrow the land-dwellers by using global warming to melt the polar icecaps and flood the world? I’m sure these are all questions you are asking yourselves. Firstly, I came to Anime Diet because I wanted to write and be part of this stellar team. I’ve been a reader of Anime Diet since Michael H. first mentioned it at one of the Anime Soufflé meetings, and I can’t think of a better place to kick-start myself into gear and get my creative  juices flowing again. Secondly, I plan on doing reviews, previews, rants, commentaries, and all around silliness for your entertainment and mine. Anime (fresh from Japan and new US DVD releases), manga, video games, Japanese trinkets, and snacks are all on the menu. Thirdly, yes, they are and shut up before they hear you. The dolphins have spies everywhere.

So in short (TOO LATE), thank you so much to the Anime Diet staff for accepting me. Thank you, loyal reader/fan for reading my (waaaay to long) introduction, I hope you were as entertained reading it as I was writing it, and that you write Michael H. and tell him I’m the greatest thing since the wheel invented sliced bread. I look forward to being part of this team to help launch Anime Diet into the future of bigger and better things.

Sincerely yours whether you like it or not,

– DC

  1. Oooh, we should have a no holes bared debate over dubs vs. subs someday. Maybe you can end my trail of blood and tears that follows the wake of my resolve  🙂
Welcome! Shall we be the team that RPGs are made of!
