Wolverine 01 – are you kidding me?

This is the best sword and claw action since Ninja Blade! Or no, this is arguable but for an old, tired American concept turned into Japanese anime, this is great!

The stupid bishonen stuff from the old trailer is long gone. We have a Logan the way he should be – manly, tough, goes after what he wants. Did I mention GAR??? But not GAR in a mountain of muscles way, but agile and with well defined muscles and big shoulders. What, you have guns, son? That’s a good one. But I’m still a million times faster than you. Nice try, bub.

Thankfully no “bub’s” were uttered by this Logan. This guy simply rocks.

…Why does Logan always goes through the same shit? Someone is always trying to snatch his girlfriend away. I never really read much of X-Men and I remember that plot.

I really like the action scenes, to me, they’re quite fluid. Lightening fast, smooth and deadly, just like a fairy tale ninja. Wolverine is perfect at his new home – in an anime produced by Madhouse.

The female lead is bland. But that’s why this show is called “Wolverine”. My fan service side wags its head but my fighting action side wags its tail (man that was off). In any event, you should just watch the show for all the stops that the makers of Ninja Scroll put in and more – cause they certainly know how to kick it up a notch or two. Or TEN.

Heartily recommended for any action fan.

Durarara! 1 – Headless Bikewoman

So what myths lie in your city?

I was asking myself the question because Taipei had no urban legend, or at least, I was not aware of any.

But the show has intrigued me with its seemingly plain and yet engaging storytelling. Mikato is an average Japanese teenager student and yet he manages to be quite lucky. He meets all the most interesting people that may relate to his life in someway on the very first day he goes to Tokyo. Actually, I saw a lot of interesting things on my first visit to Tokyo as well. For example, I watched Little-Non performing live in Akiba and managed to talk with Nozomi-san (nicest person on earth) – I told her I was a “baka gaijin” and I she jumped out from right behind her desk and assured me that I was not (long story, ask me later). Akiba was so nice then because no ippanjin cared to go there and gawk at everyone else and no stupid police and government officials telling people to “clean up” their acts and stores. That was 2004. Enough with my personal story.

But that was Tokyo: mysterious, exciting, totally different for a surburb boy like me (I lived near DC for more than 10 years). As a matter of fact, a prostitute (she did not look anything like your average adult workers. She was probably a call girl) came into my room and I had to tell her in my poor Japanese: “Wrong room.” I…Yeah, you know. I do kinda regret it because she was pretty.

Tokyo in this show is even more mythical, I mean, the headless bikewoman. That’s right, woman. Because it was a woman’s figure that I saw on my computer screen and the guys bumped into a woman with a scar on her neck. The color of her facial skin was different from her neck.

It may not be the 80’s Tokyo, but it is still oddly appealing. Of course, crime is more rampant than what people in Japan would like you to believe. It is safer than a lot of large cities in other countries, but don’t count on it if you go there.

I found the internet interactions realistic and the animation interesting. The animation is much like Soul Eater just a hell lot less wacky. But the realism is appealing. There is more to the headless horseman myth in this one and I hope to find out more as the show goes on.

Oh and…I think I see a black Russian in the show!!! Awesome! I only wish they animate him so he dances in that famous Russian style and raps in Russian fusion English fusion Japanese. That’d be the coolest fucking thing in anime history…

Another Yaoi Doujin Artist Arrested

This just in – July 10, Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan – just a few minutes after 11:45 PM Japan time, the local police arrested Sakamoto Kazami, a local elementary school teacher who has been secretly drawing and selling “animal boys love” doujinshi for 3 years. The “Shin Mobile Morality Squad, which the Diet reported 2 years ago, has been tracking the activities of this woman for some time. They collaborated in the her arrest. According to police chief Yamada, this was a “victory against public immorality in the other direction.”

We at the Diet think he was referring to lolicon-art material for the first direction, as this police chief has been known for supporting the national effort to ban loli-hentai and loli-eroge.

“She did sell her work in Tokyo primarily, but then she decided that there should be some freedom for a close-knit society such as the one in Japan – she felt that we had to learn to allow people to express themselves as individuals, and thus she began selling her wares online and also distributing some of her work as well as others’ work over Winny.” Chief Yamada said. He refused to comment whether her 1-year study in US had any influence on her behavior.

Such arrests seem to be becoming more common in recent days as artists formerly enjoying their relative freedom in Tokyo as well as in their own backyard are becoming wearier of the actions of the local police and the Shin Mobile Morality Squad, as well as the politicians’ efforts to make Japan more “westerner friendly”.

It is our opinion at the Diet that further arrests for yaoi artists as well as loli-artists aren’t far off.

Odex, FUNimation, and Media Factory have requested Section 9 for the crack down…

From The Diet 3  Daily –

Oct. 1st, Tokyo, Japan.  Our sources have indicated that 3 of the biggest animation conglomerates have somehow contacted the right people in the National Security Department and shockingly, they have somehow reached Aramaki, the section chief of Section 9, in order to help them to crack down on raw uploaders in Tokyo.

As incredible and improbable as this is, it seems like somehow the National Security Section 9 has been monitoring the progress of fansubs for the past 10 years and our sources indicated that they’re not quite pleased with the way Section 9 has been portrayed.

“We’re merely a search and rescue organization.” Said Major Kusanragi Motoko. “It really bothers us when people out there think we somehow secretly arrest raw uploaders, interrogate them, and even put them in jails without proper trials. It’s very troubling indeed.”

It has been rumored that the government has been secretly keeping tabs on raw uploaders in Tokyo and other big cities. Also, recently the government has been tightening up their censoring and cracking down of illegal anime and manga related activities, including selling doujinshi outside Comiket and other conventions.

Our agency has received an instant message with a video attached. The message simply stated that: “Right Wing imperialism similar to Meiji Restoration is on the rise again. The electing of Fukuda instead of Aso is a ruse simply to lower the guards of Japan’s neighbors including China and Korea, and the United States of America.

“Japan is planning another world take over, not by military force or economic power, but something even more dark and highly sinister…”

The rather puzzling video displays footages of a young Japanese man wearing a high school uniform with glasses and surrounded by women of different races and hair colors, wearing different culturally specific outfits, including a US colonial-style blouse, a German beer maid outfit, and a Chinese Dress, walking on a non-descriptive Japanese high school campus with falling Cherry Blossom flower petals in the background.

“It’s the women! Our women…No…!”

The  message ended abruptly there.

Our agency is still trying to determine the meaning of this message and the attached video. But what is certain is that the (Imperial) Japanese  government is on the move, with American and Japanese corporate cooperation.

Of course, we are not ruling out the possibility that this could be a prank by the cosplayers in the States.

Yaoi doujin artist arrested.

From The Diet 3 Daily

Sept 26, Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. Earlier today, the local police arrested Minami Takayama, a 35-year old unmarried women who’s been drawing yaoi vampire doujinshi for 15 years.

The police chief reported that the local branch of the “Shin Mobile Morality Squad” has been secretly tracking this woman’s underground sales of her work to girls and women ranging from 14 to 45; from middle school girls to middle-aged housewives.

“She has been secretly selling indecent materials of sexual activities depicting men on men, men on boys, boys on boys, men to boys, and boys to men,” said Chief Watanabe. “Her work would’ve been acceptable if she were selling them in certain conventions in Tokyo, but she insisted on breaking the rules and the social stigma and selling outside these conventions.

“We think her abnormal behavior has something to do with her 2-year study abroad in America.” Chief Watanabe added.

“Freedom of speech is good, but too much of it can be really bad.” Commented Ms. Yoshida, a local housewife. “Thank my ancestors I refused to deal with her when she came to my house asking me to buy a copy of a ‘new and innovative read’ for housewives. I just said no.

“And I would like to encourage all bored housewives to watch drama, date younger men online, and play with boys from your local middle and high schools. Trust me, it makes the life more interesting that way.”

Police found 10000+ copies of yaoi doujinshi work from at Takayama’s home. It’s reported that her room is full of posters showing male characters from Neon Genesis Evangelion, Hellsing, Fullmetal Alchemist, Kujibiki Unbalance, Prince of Tennis, and others.

She faces 5 years in prison with a stiff 450000 yen fine.
