12 Days, 12 Moments: Day 2–The Fathers of Moe

Today’s ABC blogfest gorge of 12 great anime moments is from what I think is this year’s best formula show, Seto no Hanayome. It’s a show that’s full of belly laughs already, with many refreshing aspects which I wrote about in my series review, but this one has to take the cake for its, shall we say, extreme nature. It’s not just hilariously disturbing, awful, and uproarious; it’s also a brilliant piece of otaku satire.

I speak, of course, of this scene, from episode 20.

Someone at Key must be throwing up by now

Review: Seto no Hanayome–Boys to GAR

It just might make you believe it’s true.

It’s been a long time indeed since an entire anime series has moved through my life so rapidly–in this case, in the space of a week and a half from start to completion, for a full 26 episodes no less. That already tells you something about this infectious, frequently hilarious, and satisfying comedy, which has just enough heart to make it genuinely sweet as well. For once, the harem show has been done right.

Seto no Hanayome 1-9: The First Third is Free…

This is roughly as suggestive as this show gets. Which, given its genre, is amazing.

…and the rest is to feed the addiction. It’s been a while since I’ve been utterly addicted to a show and watching a rapid number of episodes not on assignment for an article–and putting off my class reading in the process. This show is slapstick enough, likeable enough, and similar-and-yet-original enough to the various harem/romance conventions to be a winning comedy in my book. And with relatively little fanservice too!

Seto no Hanayome: First Impressions

A show summary.

Yes, I know. I’m a latecomer to this show, a very late comer, and I only picked it up because I read other reviews which hailed it as the funniest show of recent vintage. Since the release rate of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei has been slow lately in English, I needed another pick-me-up and wanted to see whether it fit the bill. It does.
