Genshiken s2 ep5 – the jacking off fantasy for…

YAOI FANGIRLS! OF COURSE (refraining himself from puking and choking on his vomit laughing at the same time)!

Well, you know these guys in Genshiken aren’t exactly doctors of love, but in the mind of a hyper imaginative female Otaku they sure know how to do each other in the asses. XD

Mizubashi Kaori, who plays Ogiue here, does an awesome voice act of a yaoi-con female Otaku dying to come out of the closet. It’s especially funny because Ogiue has such a poker face outside but is really devious inside when it comes to pairing up men.

This episode takes up Ogiue’s parts and kick them up to notches unknown. The result is a super funny episode that makes the male Otaku (me) laughing their asses to death and the female Otaku (maybe you)…well, laughing their asses to death, too.

Ogiue is turning into an awesome character, much better than Mr. Nice Guy Sasahara. Those who read the manga know what I’m implying.

You know, the thought just occurred to me that the ladies in Genshiken are the funny factors here, not the men.

A few interesting character dynamic to note: 1. Sasahara is often quite close to Madarame. 2. Ogiue is noticing Sasahara after all.

(Resumes puking and laughing)

We as Otaku, or what we would like ourselves to be called simply don’t understand how degrading a term like that is for the Japanese. But after watching the fantasy that goes on inside Ogiue’s head, I can see why the Japanese would actually have such a fear and loathing for this term. After all, things that go on in Otaku’s head are often very, extremely, hyper…

GROSS. REALLY GROSS.

(Puking as Sasahara moans. Wanting to turn of the show but can’t stop laughing.)

The cheesy drama within the drama has all the guys in Genshiken playing a scene not uncommon from any daytime soap in just about any country, except…

THEY ARE ALL DOING EACH OTHER IN THE ASSES!

I can see what yaoi fans would say to me, though. Well, now you know how we feel when we see some of the male oriented doujinshi.

Yes, but girls on girls are hot!

Your point being?

I think the best thing if you haven’t seen this episode is to watch it, and if you have watched it a few times, watch it a few more times. It has all the stereotypes in yaoi ( I only guessed!)

For a pure Otaku comedy value in my opinion, 98% recommended for your daily anime diet. For non Otaku, 77%.

I’m severely tempted to ask yaoi fans if this episode is considered tasteful (read: very mild) for their tastes.

P.S. one fanservice shot for men spotted (oohoo!) A really sexed up Saki-chan in Chinese dress! It’s a great neutralizer for us men!

I'm a hardcore Anime Fan and I'm proud of it. I know so many things and I've acquired so much knowledge you wouldn't believe. But my love is anime. I've been drifting in this world for so long that I don't even know what an anchor means. I've seen so many shows that I've lost count. The only thing I'm sure of myself is that I care for the lowly and disenfranchised. I hate the rich and powerful and I love what I do, or what I can do. I like anime and I don't mind watching different types of shows. I have experience in different types of Japanese animation. I would be called an "expert" in a bizzaro world. One day, I'd like to start a revolution. I love the US, pizza, beer, sashimi, Chinese food, and steak. But I love freshly baked bread more than a well-aged steak. In reality, if I were born Japanese I'd be a real, hardcore Otaku. I love to love and I can hate strongly. I'm passionate in nature and I don't mind shedding tears. 1. I like yaoi, and it was hilarious because it mirrors a lot of the over the top stories you see. The melodrama, the tears when being kissed…. So stereotypical, but in a way on point to what some manga/anime is like. I don’t see how it’s gross, but I guess that’s just me. It was funny how even the smallest things (tie pulling) get twisted to such an extent.

Though I don’t think otaku is a bad thing to be called because of fangirl fantasies.

  2. @anne – you’re right, it’s actually not because of fangirl fantasies. Part of the reason is that (the bigger part, actually) is because of a certain men did some really disgusting things and the press found out about it when the police busted them.

Well…I certainly didn’t need to hear Sasahara moaning and orgasming. Two men making out is not a pleasant sight in my eyes.

  3. “Two men making out is not a pleasant sight in my eyes.”

Be careful. If you live anywhere on the “civilized” West – you can be arrested for homophobia, for these kind of words.

  4. @Karry – hahahahaha! In real life, I tolerate, just not wanting to see it. People can make their choices and I wish them the best, but I’ll walk away.
Come to the States sometime but don’t visit the Blue Oyster-style bar (watch Police Academy 2), and you can say something I said all you want and get away with it. At least 3 years ago it was like that. XD

  5. Apparently tolerating is not enough, you HAVE to aknowledge that being homo is every bit as normal as being hetero, since there were several court orders, fines, and arrests. So no, not gonna visit the Evil Empire anytime soon.

  6. @Karry – Yes, you’re right, being homo is normal as being hetero.
I know nothing about court orders, fines, and arrests. I know I won’t say anything bad about them in real life. My blog personality is just that, for the blog. You don’t know me in real life.
As for the Evil Empire bit, here’s the deal – just because Bush does things we don’t agree doesn’t make all Americans evil. You may have had bad experiences with American tourists but they’re a small minority. A lot of us hate him but for now, we can’t do a thing about him.
If you can’t understand my humor and think my humor represents all of States and the views of every single person in the States then you’re just as ignorant as your conception of me.
This “Evil Empire” created the internet, have people that begin fansubs in the west, and provides a lot of free information on useful things for free, more than people from your country did. So you can hate Bush and his cabinet all you want, but don’t be ignorant and think all Americans are bad. That makes you a ignorant hick (look that term up if you want) just like some stupid Americans.
But in any case, thanks for commenting and thank you for being more passionate about issues than other people.

  7. I wouldn’t say being gay is “normal”. That’s politically correct bullshit. Apparently, most people are not gay, hence being gay is not the norm. Communication nowadays is really a pain when you hit some controversial topic because people are used to copy statements and opinions of others. Many have little experience to say what they really think in their own words and many even have difficulty to understand the actual meaning of phrases and words because they are only used to understand them in certain contexts like idioms. Many words are incredibly spoiled, they have so many different meanings in different but often even the same context, that it can be terribly hard to get a message through without causing some misunderstandings. The point is, being normal is nothing to be proud of, nor is opposite something to be ashamed of. However you can only be normal with respect to a certain attribute. Everyone diverges from the norm in way or another. You may be taller than others, smarter, have darker skin, be more aggressive and so on. Thus, being gay is not normal. Being gay is fine.

  8. I was also laughing my ass off, but as I do like yaoi I wasn’t at all disgusted by it, though I certainly understand if you do have that reaction. (My tacit agreement with my male friends in college was they could have their girl on girl and I would keep my guy on guy, and as long as we didn’t shove it in each others faces it was all good. Of course, if they did happen to do so I would have my revenge.) The stereotypes are what really got me, since I already love making fun of them, and they hit an awful lot of them in a pretty short time. And to be honest, the quality in this episode was much higher than any other BL I can remember seeing, so I guess that just makes it funnier and sadder. And if you want to ask whether I thought it was tasteful or not, well, I’m actually kind of shocked some of that was in a tv episode. Though I’m not complaining! I personally think it’s sort of awesome that they pushed things that far. I don’t think I could watch it with anyone but a few other girls who like yaoi though. Embarrassing! (I completely understand Ogiue there.)

  9. LOL All I gotta say is, it was fucking hilarious how fanboys reacted LOL, last time I checked, most of them were vomiting everywhere MUAHAHA! Being a yaoi fan myself, I found it so funny how they were showing the usual stereotypes of yaoi. I don’t like yuri either so haha I can’t really blame you..Big ass boobies are just a no-no for me XD

  10. Genshiken s2 has had some of the most inventive and edgy episodes so far. Well, I guess it’s all fun and games and good times, eh?

  11. Karry was calling US the “Evil Empire,” and no, I wasn’t aware that it’s also an online forum.
