My Top 10 Revival Wishes

With American Hollywood remaking every movie in existence, I decided to think about what anime I’d love to see get remade, revived, or rehashed. Recently there was the new Mahoromatic OVA, the Birdy the Mighty remake, and the new Trigun movie… the anime of our past isn’t going anywhere. So, almost anything is open game. Below is a list of anime I’d love to see again, with the only requirement that it be more than 5 years old.

1. Shamanic Princess

This was the first anime I ever saw that took my breath away. I’ve been begging for more ever since. I’d love to see a new series, a remake, a movie…. Anything. If you haven’t seen this yet, it’s one of the golden OVA gems from the 90’s and I highly recommend it.

2. Saber Marionette series

It saddens me that nobody remembers or saw this series these days. This was one of the defining animes for me at the prime of my fandomness. It also so hard for me to re-watch because the endings just tear me to pieces. This would be the first suggestion I’d ever give a producer if I were ever given the opportunity.

3. Dirty Pair series

There needs to be a new Dirty Pair every 10 years. No exceptions.

4. Gunsmith Cats

With Burst finished, we can only hope for another OVA or a season of Gunsmith Cats in the future. This is still one of my favorite reads and the OVA is one of the top from the 90′s.

5. Martian Successor Nadesico

With it’s new pachinko game being advertised everywhere, I’d LOVE for this to spawn a remake, a new season, or a prequel season. I’ve heard people saying that they’d love to see a Ruri spinoff series. ARE YOU LISTENING, JAPAN? THESE ARE SOME GREAT IDEAS!

6. Nurse Witch Komugi-chan

Might just be my weird obsession with the show, but I still listen to the soundtracks. Komugi can’t go away just yet! I was never given enough to begin with!

7. Battle Programmer Shirase

I can’t be the only one who thought this show has potential to be a real, full season. Most people have forgotten about BPS, but then quickly remember how much it kicked ass.

8. Haibane Renmei

This is a world that I’d really, really, really like to see more of. It still sticks in my mind as a show, and that’s a good thing. I was going to put Niea_7 here because of it’s ending, but Haibane Renmei needs more. Much more.

9. Vision of Escaflowne

Obvious choice is obvious.

10. MAZE

I’d love to see a modern twist on the storyline. With all of the gender bending crazy storylines coming into the current generation, a modern version of this could be quite popular.

Special mentions that are not 5 years old but NEED MOAR:

Binchou-tan

PLEASE. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! The anime was SO GOOD. (screw you haters) I WANT MORE.

Moyashimon

Come ON! It’s still ridiculously popular. There’s still a ton of material to work with. MORE PLEASE. And I know there’s a Live Action Drama coming soon, but I don’t have faith in it continuing past the anime in it’s first season, if there is even more than one season.

REC

How many of you can also not get any part of this show out of your head? I mean… there is no way that the anime was enough. MOAR.

So that’s it for now. I would also add things like Battle Angel, but I’m still hoping that James Cameron makes his version. I didn’t add anything that is super famous and had a decent ending. I don’t want to hear things like Cowboy Bebop or FLCL, as superfranchises like those may never go away (Just look at Trigun). And we’ll continue seeing Evangelion remakes until the world ends, so no need for those. Before I saw Kobato I would have wanted more Chobits related stuff, but I’m happy and surprised with that addition. I also really want to add Urusei Yatsura… but I’m going to be clairvoyant and say that somebody is thinking about that already.

But to be honest… I think anything is fair game. I would have never had though I’d be seeing more Trigun or Mahoro. I think to support the future of anime we have to support it’s past. The more we look at how we came here the more we’ll know why we’re here. The past supports the future in many ways. I know that a lot of the Hollywood remakes are annoying, but giving something we love a modern kick is just one way of showing how much we love it.

So yeah, what would you like to see revived?

Here, Here about the Dirty Pair/Gunsmith Cats revivals. At least for me, these have great potential given how much things have changed since they were last on the scene. To examine a new world via these characters sounds like great fun.

(At least for me, Nadesico kinda dates itself in an almost negative manner which is why I can’t feel the same way despite my enjoying it when it was new. And Escaflowne is a definite relic of another time. What we probably need are more progressive hybrids along the lines of this series pre-feature film. – That at least should be a continuing goal.)

An interesting list – I have not seen most of what you’ve mentioned here, so I’ll go check all of those out.
I’ll add something here though – Robotech. The Shadow Chronicles (or whatever the newest movie was called) made me cry (in terms of it sucking horribly.) I wouldn’t mind seeing a decent reboot. With CG as good as it is nowadays, it shouldn’t be any trouble at all to bring to life some VFs!

I’d love to see the original Bubblegum Crisis finished…but I guess that’d only happen in an alternate dimension. I root for more Binchotan.

Hmmm I didn’t notice this list, until today, but…if I ever want to see a revival in series.. got to be Luna Varga or Project A-Ko or Basara, then again maybe Project Idol… of your list, I would definitely watch Shamanic Princess..
