Anime Diet is One Year Old Today!

It’s my party and I’<p>ll cry if I want to

As of today, December 19, there has been a site with Ray and I blogging and podcasting together–first as Scattered Cels, then as Anime Diet for one year. It’s our first anniversary! This vehicle for he and I to yap got so much farther than I even dreamed we would: convention coverage, interviews with fans and guests, comments and countercomments, and the sheer delight of being together with people who share your hobby.

Thanks to all of you who’ve been pulling for us all this time. We look forward to even bigger and better things the coming year. Stay tuned for my own personal retrospective on the history of this site tomorrow or the day after. (Ray’s done his already–a TAD early, ahem. 🙂 And if you commented there, please feel free to comment once more. We loooooove compliments!)

Raging egomanic question: I’m curious as to how many of you started reading or listening to us when we were still called Scattered Cels. Those of you who have been faithful from the very start get a gold lucky star. This was our first post, and we’ve never looked back.

Michael lives in the Los Angeles area, and has been into anime since he saw Neon Genesis Evangelion in 1999. Some of his favorite shows include Full Metal Alchemist, Honey and Clover, and Welcome to the NHK!. Since 2003 he has gone to at least one anime convention every year. A public radio junkie, which naturally led to podcasting, he now holds a seminary degree and is looking to become Dr. Rev. Otaku Bible Man any day now. 1. Happy Birthday Anime Diet. I remember visiting back when you guys were known as Scattered Cels. I never posted then, just stayed in the side lines reading. It’s sort of funny how I look back then and you guys were just doing blogs with pictures, then your first podcast came next. I have seen Anime podcasts come and go, but you guys really grew from nothing to something.

Only one year old today. Wow, I wonder where Anime Diet will be years from now.
Speaking of birthdays, My Radio show will be going on thirteen years old this 2008 coming up. Wow, can’t believe I’ve been producing shows that long.

About Anime Diet. I think you guys are doing great, and I love the cover stories each week. I love the commentaries and round table discussion’s as well. Take it from an old vet as myself in the radio business, now retired (*_*) I really think you guys should step up the bar, and over the other Anime pod caster’s out there by transforming your style of show into a once a month video show.

You might be thinking there is no way with the kind of show you do, but I disagree. No one ever thought of seeing a video version of my radio shows back in the Real Player G2 days, but I proved them all wrong. It was the best move I have ever made toward web casting radio.

I really think you guys should try producing at least one, one hour video show in windows media format that carries the same style of programing you put into each show, including video clips, sort of like a TV News program about science, but on Anime. I feel this will not change the theme of what you guys do, but will give a listener a whole new look into what you do.

I really believe if you try this out at least one time, and really plan this one out and produce it just right, I really believe you could bring Anime news and pod casting to a whole new level.

You guys started out with the basics back then, and then podcasting. It’s time you guys try stepping it up a bit and go video casting next. I would really at least once see this happen. No one else I know has pulled this off yet, or just gave up trying after their first bomb.

Take a chance Anime Diet, and see what happens. You might be the next biggest thing to happen in Anime podcasting.

Thats my two cents worth. Good Luck (^_^)/

  2. Ah but all of them live at different places. You’d really see three funny faces staring slightly below the camera… hahaha~

  3. I recall seeing Scattered Cels on the aggregators but apart from that and the colour scheme that I *think* had brown in it somewhere, I’m afraid I don’t remember much else from my first visits there. The name change to Anime Diet and the subsequent url change sticks in my mind more, and the Vault articles were especially fun to read.

Anyway, happy birthday Anime Diet and best of luck to both of you in 2008!

  4. I think I started right back when Takemoto was crying over his tomatoes, and I had no idea that this blog was so young. Here’s to many more years of anime blogging! Cheers.

  5. Thanks for the well wishes, everyone. We hope to be on for many more birthdays too!

@Jerry: korosora has it right, any video production would be hampered by all of us living in many different places. However, look for the Anime Diet PMX Video Diary coming VERY soon. I do have plans for video, but mostly for con-reporting purposes.

  6. Mike: – Living in many different places wouldn’t be a problem at all if you all have webcams or video recorders. Each one of you guys would sit in front of your video cameras with a nice back drop behind you and record yourselves live while connected to your voice chat and do the show.

When finished, everyone simply sends you their live video to you and you would all then decide what scenes are removed and replaced with Anime footage.

Just use Ulead Video or some other high end video works and go from there. You ever watch Larry King on CNN. See how the studio will split the screen in two’s or three’s while a debate is going on, then the camera cuts back to King. It’s the same concept.

As crazy as this sounds Mike, If lets say I have gotten out of Sailor Moon and didn’t want to produce my shows anymore, I would love to jump to a chance to be apart of your team and make this happen.

But the chances of that happening are very low. When I decide to fire myself, I will contact you for a job. (:P)~

Good luck and keep up the good work.
