In this long delayed episode, we talk about–well, I’m not sure it can be called “news” anymore. :) The banning of Death Note like stories in Beijing, the live-action Negima, and the licensing of The Wallflower are the current topics…back then. Yikes! (We also know there are more than 50 of you listening out there too by now. Thanks!)
Listening to this podcast while I was editing it was like listening to a time capsule: of what we were like just…um…one month ago in the anime world. That’s how long it’s been since it was recorded, on May 20th, and that’s how long it’s been since I’ve had enough continuous free time to actually put this baby together. I promise the next one, which was recorded just last week, will come up much sooner, as I’m getting on a long plane ride tomorrow and that will give me more editing time for once! (It talks about the impending Anime Expo, for one, which I’d be amiss to talk about anytime after Expo happens…)
By the way, we are serious about the competition for coming up with other creative “Death Notes.” More details to follow in a future post. Start priming your suggestions now!

–More information about the banning of Death Note near Beijing schools is here (http://tinyurl.com/32d7af), and a follow-up article here (http://tinyurl.com/2t6w58). We were not exactly precise in our discussion about that; it is not banned around the city per se, only near schools. Consider this the errata. :)

The huge amount of schoolwork basically put me behind schedule for the editing of the last couple of podcasts…so this one is a little old (recorded two weeks ago). So pardon the news not being so new. This time, Ray and I have got some news about the King of Foreign Otaku, Anno’s puppet show, and ADV’s batch of licenses (we talk mostly about Welcome to the NHK and Pumpkin Scissors). After that we chatter about Lucky Star, Mai Hime, Reideen, and Claymore!
Note that since this was recorded two weeks earlier, I’ve actually seen a lot more Mai-Hime episodes than I had when I recorded this show. (You might be interested in seeing the post I wrote after I saw 8 episodes. Since then I’ve seen 16 and am still continuing.)

Note: this episode contains more profanity than usual, and is thus tagged “explicit” in iTunes. I contemplated releasing a bleeped version in true Jerry Springer fashion, but I didn’t have time!
It’s been a while! And have we got juicy news for you in this podcast…director and producer gossip from the hallowed halls of Studios Gainax and Ghibli. Hideaki Anno’s infamous interview in the Atlantic (broken here), Goro and Hayao Miyazaki’s catfight, and Takami Akai’s resignation from Gainax are all up for comment. We also chatter about Claymore, El Cazador de la Bruja, Hayate no Gotoku, and Darker than Black, among other ongoing spring season shows.
No extras this week–because no extras were necessary. :) Everything got recorded this time. And everything is fair game!
We welcome your comments, feedback, and questions you’d like us to answer on air. Visit us at http://animediet.net, if you’re listening to this via iTunes. Thanks!

Well, here we are, with the second podcast of Anime Diet Radio (or Scattered Cels Podcast #12)! This time, Jeremy’s back, and he talks a lot about his favorite shows this new season, and Ray and I follow up with some shows we talked about last week. Prominent sections include Hayate no Gotoku, Romeo X Juliet, Gigantic Formula, El Cazador de la Bruja, Sola, and Lucky Star. There are a lot of subsections in this podcast, so use iTunes and use those chapters if you get lost. :)
Once again, there were a lot of amusing outtakes that are worth preserving. I’ve assembled them all into one outtakes file above, and broken them up into chapters as well. The outtakes talk about FLCL, fansub memories from the pre-BitTorrent age, Excel Saga, the definition of shoujo, and Japanese broadcast standards. (Download the file from http://animediet.net/archives/98 if you are receiving this podcast only through iTunes.)
We welcome your comments and questions–leave them in the comment section of this post, and we’ll answer your questions as best we can on the air! Thanks.

–References to “the club” and “grab bag” are referring to the anime club that I belong to (and Jeremy runs) called Anime Souffle! We are based in Los Angeles, and if you’re in the area you are more than welcome to join us. See our Meetup.com page here! (http://anime.meetup.com/447/)
And here it is…the podcast once known as Scattered Cels Anime Podcast, resurrected as Anime Diet Radio! In this episode, Ray and I go through a whole bunch of shows that are new this season–some we’ve seen, some we haven’t. We talk about El Cazador de la Bruja, Gurrren-Lagann, Claymore, Romeo x Juliet, Darker than Black, Seirei no Moribito, Kotetsu Sangokushi, Gigantic Formula, Nagasarete Airantou, and finally Hayate no Gotoku!
In our wide ranging conversation, too, there were some lengthy digressions which weren’t, strictly speaking, about stuff coming out this season. But they were so funny and informative, I thought they were worth preserving anyway! So two extra files along with the main podcast are being released: Extra 1 is a 10 minute discussion of Madlax combined with some comparisons and thoughts on the new Tarantino/Rodriguez movies, Grindhouse. Extra 2 is mostly Ray riffing on The Big O in the context of our discussion of Darker than Black. They’re both tons of fun and we hope you enjoy them as well! (For those who are getting this through iTunes: the two extra files are available on the main website, at http://animediet.net/archives/84. You can listen/download from there.)
Anyways, the Anime Diet Radio ship has sailed. Enjoy!
