This series is an interesting adaptation of the Chinese classic, The Romance of the Three Kingdoms. I won’t say anything more.

- YES! PANTSU! DING DING DING DING!
Well, dream on Otaku boys (that of course includes me) but this never happens in real life.
I got the same conclusion after watching episodes 1 and 2.
Oh sure. A glass guy who’s actually not an otaku but exhibits all the behaviors of an anime lead especially when facing a cute girl??? Come on!
A rich girl who’s into anime, or rather actuall, who’s otaku? Yeah right.
And she acts just like the main harem girl lead? Oh my god.
Mamiko-chan, why oh why oh why???
Seiki Rei ep 03 - Harem Contract

So, the loli wants our hapless hero as oniichan..oh…how sweet.
And the harem grows! Big breasted miko-san and now a loli.
Boy, I want to be the master of seiki-reis!
“Oh you just don’t know his good points!”
Yeah, no kidding. As if he had any.
The game goes on and more girls are sprouting wings and at least, the twins put down their feet at the college guy for hitting on other women (with bigger breasts). But hey,
In the otaku’s fantasy world, this has just enough emotional impact to make everything else more acceptable.
Like fan service but not the actual sex? Then this one is for you…
What, I didn’t say much? What’s there to say?
Review: Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Posted by Rah'ra Clemens on 10 Jul 2008 at 10:28 pm | Tagged as: Uncategorized
The old-school anime Romance of the Three Kingdoms is a faithful adaptation of a famous historical Chinese novel written in the 14th century about the collapse of the Han Dynasty and its aftermath. For those who don’t know anything about Chinese history the Han Dynasty is the second Chinese dynasty (after the Qin) and it lasted for four hundred years from 206 BC to 220 CE. It collapsed for the usual reasons: a combination of bloody internal politics, government mismanagement and corruption, and inept under-aged emperors. The story is about three heroes, the honorable Liu Bei, the brave Sun Qian, and the tricky Cao Cao as they schemed and fought to reunite China under their banner. Their efforts split the country into the Three Kingdoms: Shu, Wei, and Wu. The story begins with Liu Bei, a village tailor, swearing the oath of blood brothers with Zhang Fei and Guang Gong. Those two would become the most celebrated warriors in Chinese history. The story ends a little more than a century later when the rising Jin Dynasty takes control of the Country of Wei, conquers the Countries of Wu and Shu, and ends the warlord period.
The animation is early 90s, the story is classic, and thankfully the director chose NOT to rely on giant mechanical impossibilities, supernatural eye powers, sluttish under-dressed women, or cute little sisters to advance the plot. There are maids, lots of them, but they’re fully-clothed with normal upper body proportions, and they don’t do anything weird. The characters have to use their brains to win, in contrast to other popular shows and when they don’t they die. The most common scene is a sword or spear thrust followed by a bloody scream and a thud. Romance of the Three Kingdoms is about real-world politics with more than its share of intrigue, deception, and betrayal.
This show is Masami Tsuda’s favorite anime. She likes Cao Cao, who is similar to Yukino Miyazawa, the heroine of Kare Kano: cunning, manipulative and intelligent.

Review: Speed Racer, The Next Generation
Posted by matt on 26 Jun 2008 at 11:04 am | Tagged as: Uncategorized
Synopsis
A young racer gets off the bus, heading to his first day of school: but it’s not just any school, it’s a racing school. As you may well expect, this school (and this story) is basically a large tribute to the original Speed Racer. Why the original Speed Racer? Because now there is a new one, the Next Generation if you will. This new racer is named “Speed,” which in this world is like naming your kid “Einstein.” So this new racer meets the obligatory rivals. One is the son of Speed Racer, named X, twins, and the other is the spoiled daughter of a corporate magnate.

A Manifesto
Posted by Rah'ra Clemens on 20 Jun 2008 at 10:39 pm | Tagged as: Uncategorized
I’m writing Diary to the Future because I want to create my own world. I want your feedback, and more importantly, I want your ideas. Ask questions! For example: how old are Sasha’s parents and why can’t she talk to her sister? Why powers the City? How many people live there? What is on the Outside? Etc..
I got tired of reading about other people’s creations and I wanted to create my own world based on ideas from Asimov’s books, from anime, and from modern science. The one thing I hate about reviewing is that by doing it we learn to follow in other people’s footsteps but we don’t learn how to walk on our own. I hate literature analysis for the same reason. Yes, we come up with clever commentary and (occasionally) scintillating observations but in the end we’re not doing anything new. Many of us are educated, or in college, or with advanced degrees, but unless we can think for ourselves and create something we’ll always be in the middle of the pack. I don’t mean we should write fanfics; most fanfics are pretty awful. What I mean is that we should create our own world or our own stories. Narnia, Lord of the Rings, Dune, Star Wars, and many of the other classics were stories from a fictional universe. Without the courage to create none of those stories could have been written.
And so, I’m going to create my own world through the medium of these letters and diary entries. So far my world has characters, setting, and history. However, large patches of it remain incomplete. The Underground, for example, is the crude drawing of a young girl. I’ll flesh it out as soon as I can but I need to create other parts first.
