Having come at this show from the manga, it's interesting to see what differences there are. I'm still watching the season, but I do like how from the start of the first episode they hint (with a fashion magazine Ryuuji trashes) that it's about romantic cliches and how they don't exactly work in real life.

The anime does seem more sympathetic to Taiga, presenting her as a more complete person than the tsundere she is at start in the manga (though in any case the manga rapidly fleshes her out.)

Wow, well im hooked up with toradora but a big WOW for your blog man!
Hehe you probably have the best blog for toradora that i have seen so far.

I started with toradora and followed with kannagi because alot of toradora fans tend to compare them, first 4 eps for this one was soso, same thing with kannagi (but i was annoyed with Nagi's personality even if she is a tsundere char) both series turned out to be great. Toradora wins the battle for romance and Char.s but kannagi gets the medal for laughter. Keep up the nice blogs!!!

@suguru: thanks for the compliment. :) I totally agree about Kannagi. It's entertaining, and as of episode 9 it's been getting funnier and funnier, but Toradora is better.

Great post - I agree completely, I was going to post about Toradora but you wrote this much better than I could. Going into the season, I was expecting Kannagi to be the clear favorite for me, but while Kannagi's not bad, Toradora is what I always find myself anticipating the most.

@0rion: my sentiments are similar, though I think I noticed something just a little different even at the start. It might have been the voiceovers. It was definitely rather typical until around episode 5 or so.

@RogerOskaner: that's good news, then. I hope they can do a lot more character development than they've done so far without it becoming stale.

@IcyStorm: well, we don't know for sure yet, true. Now that I know it's going to be two seasons long, they've got plenty of time to pull that trick. If and when they do I hope they don't go overboard with it--way too many anime have what I call the Freudian Excuse, where a childhood trauma explains everything.

@satoukun: Ep 5 was the turning point for me, too. Though maybe my sense of humor is unrefined and I found some of the early jokes amusing as well. :)

Honestly, I don't understand what the big deal about Toradora is. To me it went from being unwatchable to watchable : ) until episode 5. The first 4 episodes are horrible and the comedy feels unnatural. Like every other
sentence is a typical joke you'd expect in this type of anime. Basically, trying to hard to make jokes and to make us laugh = fail. At least for 4 first episodes. Then enter the new girl with blue hair. What a difference one character can make. : )

immensely gratified that the writers did not leap to the immediate conclusion that Minorin’s cheerfulness was a thin coping mechanism for trauma and pain.

How do we know of that for sure?

And oh damn, 0rion's alive!

Some sources are saying 13 episodes, but I believe that's only the first half, and the only episodes in which the titles were released so far. The DVD information that was found many weeks ago said it was 25 episodes, which makes sense concerning they're jsut about about halfway through the source material as well.

So you'll probably be getting another healthy dose of Toradora in a short while.

I've also been somewhat surprised by the quality of the show overall. I was pretty much ready to drop it after the first couple episodes; fortunately I decided to stick it out, and I've been glad to see the story evolve into something much more interesting than it portrayed itself to be in the beginning.
